Mary-Ann's Power Play

Mary-Ann Baldwin, the best-financed candidate in this year's Raleigh City Council At-Large race, is continuing her marketing blitz of the city. Carolina Hurricanes announcer Chuck Kaiton has been making recorded phone calls on Baldwin's behalf, telling residents that his "good friend" Baldwin is a "tireless worker" and "strategic thinker." Kaiton, known for his rapid-fire delivery, is fairly reserved during the call and doesn't present Baldwin's campaign as an odd-man rush. (Message to Baldwin's opponents: CALL TRIPP TRACY!) Baldwin is, of course, no stranger to the Canes, as she used to be the team's director of corporate communications.

Mary Ann and Chuck have gotten political, as have Kristi "Ice Princess" Yamaguchi and Brett Hedican.... Seems to me that if the Hurricanes organization spent a little less time in politics, and a little more time on hockey, they just might be able to return to the Stanley Cup playoffs, instead of improving their golf game!
