Brandon Nolan must be racking up some serious frequent flyer miles.
The Canes recalled the 24-year-old forward for the fourth time this season — third this month — along with defenseman Tim Conboy for tonight's game against the Colorado Avalanche. Glen Wesley has retroactively been placed on injured reserves, dating back to Jan. 5.
Wesley was in the Canes' morning skate and said he was surprised how well he felt. Still, Canes coach Peter Laviolette doesn't want to rush the veteran defenseman back — especially considering today was his first day back on the ice.
Matt Cullen skated with the Canes, but again, he won't be playing. Cullen is recovering from a concussion he received Dec. 26. He said he's feeling great physically, but the Canes are being careful with the injury.
In other illness news, Niclas Wallin is the latest victim, missing the skate.
Neither Trevor Letowski and Ray Whitney skated, but Wade Brookbank did. Brookbank said he expects to play and that he had a cold/flu.
Brookbank was still in Albany when a flu bug rampaged through the River Rats' locker room — Andrew Ladd caught it while on a conditioning assignment — but said the bug going around the Canes' locker room is different and far more stubborn.
