Hurricanes forward Joe Jensen, who was called up from Albany (AHL) on Monday and made his Carolina debut in a 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils, was taken by ambulance to a Newark hospital after becoming violently sick during the game.
"He was throwing up during the game, between periods, to the point where I told him to take his gear off," Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette said.
Jensen played more than seven minutes before he fell ill and was being treated by paramedics as the game ended. Hurricanes assistant trainer Jason Bailey remained behind with Jensen as the team prepared to fly back to Raleigh.
UPDATE, 8 P.M.: According to one of the River Rats beat writers, Jensen has been treated and released. He apparently just had the flu, received IV fluids and is on his way back to Albany.
