Ken Roberts is a software engineer for Interface Technologies and an N.C. State grad. In his spare time, he’s created a web site that calculates the probability of any given team making the playoffs at any given time, with pages for the NHL, NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball.
For the Hurricanes, Roberts’ numbers don’t add up right now. According to hm, they went into Wednesday’s loss to the Philadelphia Flyers with a 40.6 percent chance of getting in, which aren’t the best of odds.
Those numbers should be updated (downgraded) by the time you read this.
According to his figures, the Thrashers, Rangers, Lightning and Canadiens will get the four open spots, with the Hurricanes, Maple Leafs and Islanders missing out.
The upside? He thinks the Canes still have an 11 percent chance of winning the Southeast Division. Well, thought, before Wednesday night's debacle.
