The Hurricanes have called a 2 p.m. press conference today to announce their new assistant general manager, by all indications Ron Francis.
When Jason Karmanos quit a week ago, Francis and director of pro scouting Marshall Johnston were the top candidates to replace him.
With Johnston comfortable in his role (a former NHL general manager, he lives outside Bemidji, Minn.) the only question was whether Francis was willing to take on the additional workload.
