Blackwater Pulls Plug On Potrero
Blackwater dropped its plans to build a firing range and training camp outside San Diego. The company cites excessive noise as the reason, denying that the intense local opposition had anything to do with the decision.
Although our project would have brought a great benefit to San Diego
County -- providing local, state, and federal law enforcement with
access to low-cost superior training facilities while bringing much-
needed jobs to the area -- the proposed site plan simply does not
meet our business objectives at this time.
Please refund all funds on deposit and not expended for permit
processing. Thank you for your assistance.

About N&O Blogs
Joseph Neff has reported extensively on Blackwater since 2004, when his series, "The Bridge," chronicled the death of four of the company's contractors in Iraq. His subsequent reporting has revealed more about the events of that day as well as the multi-layered contracts that add millions to the cost of running the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Neff, 47, came to The N&O in 1992 and has covered prisons, police, courts and the legislature. His most recent major work was "Rush to Judgment," a five-part narrative series about Mike Nifong and the Duke lacrosse case.
