Friday's paper has an interview with Shalini Chatterjee about her latest project with guitarist (and husband) Mitch Easter, a tribute band called Guitars in the Sky: A Tribute to The Records. Even though Chatterjee and Easter both put out new albums in 2007, the couple's tribute band has accounted for their only Triangle shows over the past year, including Friday night at Chapel Hill's Local 506.
As to when they might venture over from Kernersville for a show performing their own original songs, Chatterjee says they might wait until Easter puts out his next album -- which could happen as soon as next summer. This is surprising because last year's "Dynamico" was Easter's first album in 19 years, since his Let's Active days. So after going nearly two decades between albums, will Easter really crank out another one that quickly?
"Yeah, he might really have another album out by then," Chatterjee says. "He's on a roll, he's back. He's been working on new songs and he wants to finish it by summer. I'm tired from my record, it was a big effort. The world is not holding its breath for another from me, and I might do something different than calling a band 'Shalini.' I miss having a band name, and with Shalini all the reviewers rattle on about Mitch as if they don't realize I wrote the music and made records before I ever met Mitch."
