Duke coach Ted Roof
When Duke faces Northwestern on Saturday in Evanston, Ill., it will be the first time Duke coach Ted Roof faces Wildcats coach Pat Fitzgerald. Roof knew, Randy Walker, Fitzgerald's predecessor better.
Roof and Walker met during a coaches convention in Jan. 2006, five months before Walker died of a heart attack at the age of 52. Both coaches were recognized by the AFCA for the graduation rate of their players. Roof said they spent about an hour and a half together.
"He was really a good man and a fundamental football coach," Roof said. "He'd done a great job. Just way too young to pass."
