Pack's O'Brien wants level playing field

North Carolina's Butch Davis has what he wants: a contract extension and pay raise. N.C. State's Tom O'Brien isn't talking about such things — yet — but does want a level playing field.

A new playing surface at Carter-Finley Stadium, that is.

"Someone asked what I would do if I had a wish list of things to do," O'Brien said today. "That would be the first thing. The field hasn't been re-done in 30 years. All they've done is pile more dirt on it.

"We need a drainage system and it needs to be leveled. We're out here on this flat [practice] field all the time. You go in [Carter-Finley] and you've got the camel-back [field] we play on.

[More:]

"We need to look into doing some things but I guess that's between Mr. [Lee] Fowler and I when the season's over."

And that may not be all O'Brien wants to talk to Fowler, NCSU's athletics director, about doing.

How does NCSU's playing field rate with the others around? Didn't they just upgrade their stadium in a big way? I assume the field wasn't included? Just asking. I know very little about NCSU.

Just know 31-27, start with that. Butch complained about the tarhole field his first day and i think they changed that this year.

Grow up. I know you're glad NCSU won. Congratulations. I asked a simple question. You're reply was chidish. By the way, where were you when NCSU got beat by New Orleans? Congrats on taking it to Rider, though.

Excuse me, you're reply was childish.

Excuse me, "you're" should be "your."
Without being snide, may Isay I have always wondered why most agricultural universities (Ga Tech for example) had artificial turf while so-called professional universities (UNC, UGA) had natural turf. Thought it was money difference.

Thank you. By no means have I meant to be mean spirited. I just get a little tired of lack of regular conversation here. This is not the first time that it's happened. That is a good question you pose. I would think NCSU would have a nice field. In all seriousness, they have a renowned turf grass management program there. I know people who have studied there and have gone on to be head grounds keepers at nice golf courses.
