JP Top 25: Sept. 5

Note: J.P. Giglio votes in the AP Top 25. This is his ballot for Sept. 5.

My Top 4 remains the same with just about every other position changing. That’s the way it works when there are actual games to base the voting on.

I’m sticking with Notre Dame at the top, despite the close call, because: 1) Georgia Tech’s a good team; 2) It was on the road; 3) The knock on the Irish is supposed to be their defense, and if anything, that performance only bolstered their argument for No. 1.

[More:]

Cal (6 to 22) takes a long drop for obvious reasons as does Oklahoma (5 to 16), which simply didn’t look like a top 10 team in beating UAB.

Florida (18 to 10) and Tennessee (25 to 14) are the big jumpers with Nebraska, UCLA and Rutgers replacing BYU, which lost, Arizona State and Michigan State, two teams that struggled to beat weak programs.

Last week
1. Notre Dame 1
2. Auburn 2
3. Ohio State 3
4. Texas 4
5. USC 7
6. LSU 9
7. Louisville 8
8. Iowa 10
9. Clemson 11
10. Florida 18
11. Florida State 13
12. West Virginia 12
13. Michigan 14
14. Tennessee 25
15. Virginia Tech 16
16. Oklahoma 5
17. Georgia 17
18. Georgia Tech 15
19. Miami 21
20. Penn State 20
21. Oregon 23
22. Cal 6

25. Rutgers

In: Nebraska (23), UCLA (24), Rutgers (25)
